11/9 Notes Sufism, Rumi’s Poetry, Layla and Majnun

I didn’t know that Jesus just popped into Islamic poetry/stories. I thought that was pretty cool that there’s almost like a mix of religions in those poems. Which leads into another topic we had talked about–that Sufism is engaging in other religions and appreciative of other outlooks on religion. Sufism allows you to believe what you believe about a certain religion while also allowing yourself to believe in other religions (or parts of religions, like Jesus) as well. I thought that was really cool because in a lot of religions they tell you there’s only one right way to believe, that you cannot believe multiple different versions of something, which can lead to people not wanting to be a part of that religion. I know I have thought about that some, so learning that Sufism is very open and accepting of all sorts of religious ideologies is really cool and unique.
