Reading these chapters, the main part that stuck out to me was the roll the Egyptian Officers Coup played on the perspective of the book. I was surprised to see that even the name of the book was influenced by Pasha being under house arrest so he could not leave his house arrest. I fully went into this book looking at Nasser as a controversial global figure who did many bad things but was highly respected in Egypt and the Arab world with his Arab Nationalist approach. The book changed that. The family in the book were not fans and it appears Nasser was no fan of them. The family represented the past and as a result also represented the British-friendly elite of King Farouk. I think there was some bias because Nasser was there to appease the poor and hungry but I found it still very interesting how not everyone saw him the same and even had great distaste for him.
