Social Justice in Islam

This reading talks about the relationship between Islam and society. In my understanding, the author is claiming that Islam and society are one in the same. The practice of Islam applies to all facets of life and is not only for the religious sphere. Instead, Islam is universal. It can apply to everyone equally and is meant to be of use in all situations. With that being said, it can be used to address social problems. The basic beliefs of Islamic social justice: equality and distribution of wealth, freedom of mind, body, heart, and conscience, and rebuking selfishness. All of these more vague, basic beliefs are important because they allow for a broad interpretation of what social justice is and what it means in the faith.
