This week for our ICR we took a look at the Take Me To China section of the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. To prep for this meeting, we were assigned to go through the tour and analyze the information and prep for our meeting with Kwan to discuss our findings. This museum exhibit series is very beneficial to be able to see main items and ideas that originate from China.
The tour of this exhibit was very well put together was cool to be able to tour this virtually. I mainly focused on trying to learn about Asian medicine. This was very interesting to me to compare it to western medicine methods. From what I have seen there is a problem with Eastern medicine and that is that it lacks repeatability and reliability. It is also not quantifiable. Some methods like acupuncture for pain is sometimes effective but is inconsistent. I also learned about the Chinese zodiac signs. These are based in Buddhist beliefs and it suggests that the year a person is born can impact the characteristics of the person such as success and physical and mental attributes.
This experience helped me to fill in the small gaps that might not have been covered in our scheduled syllabus. It was very interesting to see all these aspects of Chinese tradition in a logical tour that has a good flow. This was very beneficial to see how much information is being presented in our local area in a great platform such as the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. This helps the younger generations to also become more culturally aware.
