ICR 12/1

After a week off for Thanksgiving break, the kids were excited to see me today, which was such a great feeling. Today in math, we talked about plotting points on a graph. They were given a sheet of graph paper and a list of coordinates to plot. They had to connect the coordinates in order to form different shapes. When they had plotted all of the points, the larger shape turned out to be a Christmas tree with a star and different ornaments. I thought this would be pretty easy compared to the other things we had been working on, but I was wrong. I think the kids did not understand the x and y axis, with down being negative and left being negative as well. I sat with Krishindi and another student to help them with plotting the points, but I found it difficult to explain it in a way they could understand. I put positive and negative signs along the axes to help them remember which direction was which.

In art, we did a review before the exam. The exam was about the different types of symmetry and what they mean. The teacher would show different pictures and ask the students if they were symmetrical or not. The subsequent exam involved them cutting out four symmetrical and asymmetrical pictures from a magazine.
