Tao Te Ching Poems 41-81

“The best athlete wants his opponent at his best. The best general enters the mind of his enemy. The best businessman serves the communal good. The best leader follows the will of the people. All of the embody
the virtue of non-competition. Not that they don’t love to compete, but they do it in the spirit of play. In this they are like children and in harmony with the Tao.” (68)

This quote was such an interesting concept to me because this was instilled in me growing up. reading this gave me goosebumps because my mother has told me quotes along these lines growing up. Whenever I would face a challenge head on, my mom always told me things like this before heading into them. The more I read the words of Tao, the more I see my personal values. The unity of the universe, the compassion as well as the forgiveness, the wisdom and knowledge that these passages carry speak to me more than anything I have read yet in this class. I was never familiar with the Tau Te Ching Poems until this class, but now that I remember my mom telling me similar things going up and the further I read into these, I feel that I have seen them at one point or another. I definitely feel it is worth asking my mom if she has ever heard of Tao Te Ching and to get her point of view on certain ones I choose that emulate her own maternal teachings. So cool!
