Reflecting on IACA Meeting 9/22

Our first session together was with Dr. Kwan Hui and he brought Chinese takeout. He talked to us about the organization and who is in charge. It was interesting to hear about the leadership and each person’s background; they have an incredibly diverse population which is something Kwan touched on multiple times. The IACA isn’t limited to Chinese Americans exclusively, but anyone interested in learning about Chinese culture.

Another thing we talked about (which I found fun) was authentic Chinese food nearby. Kwan recommended Lucky Lou and a rice noodle meal with beef. He also raved about the dim sum.

Kwan then mentioned different events, parades, and holidays the IACA focuses on and shared photos and summaries. One of the things we looked at was the Lion Dance and we watched a video with drumming. Kwan likes to drum and is looking for another drum partner is anyone is interested.

Overall, the session was really relaxed and like a casual conversation. I really enjoyed Kwan’s enthusiasm to share because it made the meeting enjoyable and I look forward to learning more in the following meetings.
