Tyrus Wong American Masters Movie Event

On October 21st, from 7pm-9pm, I was fortunate enough to attend the showing of the movie “Tyrus” in Robertson Hall. It gave an in-depth look of Tyrus Wong’s life and his impact on the art world. Tyrus was a Chinese-American artist who has worked for Disney, WarnerBrothers, and Hallmark.

In attending the event, I was able to learn so much about an Asian American painter who was so underlooked for a while and had to go through so many different trials and tribulations. Tyrus, seemingly, was just a fun guy to be around. He has this sort of persona that is just contagious, kind of goofballishness, and just likes who he is. He contributed greatly to Disney, WarnerBrothers, and really just the art world as a whole. I really did enjoy listening to his story and hearing the panel of professors, Dr. Ooi and Dr. Wang, give their insight from their artistic backgrounds. I am looking forward to the next event and hope to continue to learn more about diversity and how that is reflected in people’s lives.
