Muslim Funeral Traditions

I wanted to write about Muslim funeral traditions after seeing many items used for a funeral one day during my ICR at Nur Allah.  I helped them move items used for funerals and they pointed out the room they use for preparations. There are some differences between Muslim funerals and more standard American funerals.  The family members wash the deceased and wrap them in white clothes.  Men wash the men and women wash the women.  When bathing the body, it should be washed an odd number of times.  The burial occurs as quickly as possible.  There is usually no viewing.  There is a funeral service, however.  During the service, a prayer called the Salat al-Janazah.  The body is placed in a grave so that they are facing Mecca.  In some more traditional communities, women are not allowed at the fneral.  Cremation is forbidden due to the belief of resurrection.
