I liked learning about how Covid impacted Mosques and Muslims who wanted to pray together. It helped me better understand what a group of people different from me were going through during that hard time of not being able to see others in person. I liked how the Muslims created new ways of worship by throwing rocks at the pillar to keep distance from one another while still holding a religious significance. I wonder if that’s something they will continue to do even as the quarantine rules are lifted. I should’ve asked that question in class, but it’s also something I can definitely look up in my free time.<\/p>\n
Learning about the five pillars: shahada, salat, zakat, scum, and hajj, were very enlightening. The pillars remind me of the 10 commandments in the Bible, which I’m sure others thought, too.<\/p>\n
Another thing I liked learning about was Ramadan and how fasting can effect other areas of your life, if you’re Muslim, that other people in the United States who aren’t Muslim don’t even think about. I never realized Ramadan was so long and fell around finals week. That would be terrible to not be able to eat while writing a paper or having big meal right before or after a hard test. It makes me think professors and teachers should be more accommodating.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
