With Marvel’s first Asian lead superhero coming to theatres this week, I think it was important to point out the connection between this movie and Tiger Fighter considering class was centered around the idea of what is a superhero. Shang Chi tells the story of early Chinese tradition and a place shrouded by his father who he must face to conquer his fears and prevent the end of the world. Shang Chi never wanted to be a fighter. He ran away from his father when he was young so he could live in America and start a new life. His mother was in many ways representing the views of a peaceful Daoist society. After she is killed, her husband and Shang Chi’s father turned to a view of regret and a world empire that he started. The key difference between Shang Chi and the Tiger Fighter is how each became viewed as a hero. One wanted to be one from the start so that he could see fame and be known throughout China and the other was forced into the life by family and threats. I think what this does tell you is that heroes are not always heroes because they want to be but because they fill a role that people want to see filled. Heroes are supposed to represent the best of people and carry the good morals that the average person lacks. Using that logic is Tiger Fighter really a hero? Well it depends. Tiger Fighter may have became known as a hero because of role in that movie and him wanting it but people were still inspired by his views of courage when he “fought that tiger.” Regardless the idea of a hero varies depending on not only for what they stand for but also the inspiration they provide to others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
