After reading the Suras for today’s class, I was surprised by how similar they were to what I have learned in my own faith. I am Catholic, and to me many of the Suras in the Qur’an were similar to the readings and the teachings found in the Bible. In Sura 57, there is even explicit mention of Jesus, which I found to be surprising. The writing says that they “sent Jesus the son of Mary, and bestowed on him The Gospel ; and We ordained in the hearts of those who followed him Compassion and Mercy.”<\/p>\n
This specific sentence was interesting to me. A lot of the times, we talk about how many faith groups exhibit a degree of Islamophobia, especially in the wake of 9\/11. It was interesting to me to read about how the Qur’an talks about those who follow Jesus in such a positive light despite how they have been treated by many of them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
