{"id":434,"date":"2020-03-03T15:15:19","date_gmt":"2020-03-03T15:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/?p=434"},"modified":"2020-03-03T15:15:19","modified_gmt":"2020-03-03T15:15:19","slug":"tao-te-ching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/2020\/03\/03\/tao-te-ching\/","title":{"rendered":"Tao Te Ching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While doing the assigned readings in the Tao Te Ching there were a few selections that really had an influence on me.\u00a0 First, was Chapter 7.\u00a0 Chapter 7 is all about the idea of no self interest.\u00a0 It talks about how the reason Heaven and Earth can last forever is that they do not exist for themselves.\u00a0 One direct quote I really liked was, &#8220;Place themselves last but end up in front.&#8221;\u00a0 This quote reminded me of a saying my parents would often say to me growing up.\u00a0 Whenever I would get in trouble or do something wrong they would remind me to always treat others how I would want to be treated.\u00a0 This just emphasized how important selflessness is in today&#8217;s world.\u00a0 Another Chapter I read with a similar message was Chapter 49.\u00a0 Chapter 49 was all about not judging people and treating others how you want to be treated.\u00a0 My favorite quote from this chapter was, &#8220;Those who believe, I believe them.\u00a0 Those who do not believe, I also believe them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another chapter that I felt had a really great message was Chapter 63.\u00a0 This chapter revolved around the idea of the largest and most difficult problems in the world must be completed in little things.\u00a0 The chapter states, &#8220;Plan difficult tasks through the simplest tasks.\u00a0 Achieve large tasks through the smallest tasks.&#8221;\u00a0 Growing up my parents always emphasized the importance of setting small goals.\u00a0 Looking back at it these small goals were just a small part of the overall larger goal my parents had for myself.\u00a0 I feel like this chapter also relates to current problems going on throughout the world.\u00a0 For example, with all of the issues with the Coronavirus there will not be one large solution to this epidemic.\u00a0 It will take many small tasks of washing hands, and disinfecting objects to contain this massive health problem.<\/p>\n<p>I look forward to reading more chapters as the semester progresses and making connections with my life and the world around us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While doing the assigned readings in the Tao Te Ching there were a few selections that really had an influence on me.\u00a0 First, was Chapter 7.\u00a0 Chapter 7 is all about the idea of no self interest.\u00a0 It talks about how the reason Heaven and Earth can last forever is that they do not exist [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9196407,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-434","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/434","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/9196407"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=434"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/434\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":435,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/434\/revisions\/435"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=434"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=434"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=434"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
