{"id":780,"date":"2020-04-15T16:08:36","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T16:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/?p=780"},"modified":"2020-04-15T16:08:36","modified_gmt":"2020-04-15T16:08:36","slug":"aslan-chapter-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.butler.edu\/ghs208spring2020\/2020\/04\/15\/aslan-chapter-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Aslan Chapter 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The beginning of chapter two details the arrival of pilgrimage season. \u00a0During these months the Mecca transforms into a crowded city with millions of people traveling to attend. \u00a0I really enjoyed how detailed and specific the author was when describing the appearance of the city. \u00a0For example, he wrote, &#8220;The homes on the outer rings are made of mud and straw: impermanent structures inevitably swept away by the annual floods that inundate this valley. \u00a0Closer to the city center, the homes are larger and more permanent, though still made of mud.&#8221; \u00a0This sentence helped me visualize the city very well and allowed me to relate more to the reading.<\/p>\n<p>Another part of the reading I really was when Aslan talked about the Ka&#8217;ba transformed surronding areas into sacred grounds, basically making the city of Mecca a neutral zone.
