When reading the Bible, listening to a message, or participating in the responsive reading at my church, I never truly remember the words. I definitely cannot hear something once and repeat the exact words right back to you; however, I can hear a song and most likely regurgitate the chorus after the song is completed. Adding a melody to a lyric makes it much easier to remember. Today in class, we represented how adding pitch to a set of words makes it easier to repeat back and memorize once you have heard it once. Throughout my years in school, I have used songs to memorize the helping verbs, the FFA Creed, and many English class recitations. Today’s class made it more relevant how adding a song to any words makes it stick in your brain better. I look forward to using music in the future to memorize and understand Bible verses more.
