Predictability and Differences in Presentation

In class, we talked about how the majority of music, especially music that we listen to today, has a very predictable pattern. For most songs, we can predict what part of the song will come next, whether it be the chorus, another verse, or the bridge. However, there is also a good amount of unpredictability with music. Different songs have different rhythms, words, underlying messages, and musical aspects. It is the unpredictability that makes finding new music that you like fun and enjoyable. There are also different ways to present the same messages. Like we talked about in class, there are many different songs created around Genesis and the creation story. Even though all of these songs are essentially telling the same message, they are presenting the information and words in a different way, which allows listeners to receive some different aspects or meanings that may not be conveyed through other songs.
