We talked about Jesus as the Messiah and what that means. The Hebrew word Messiah means anointed or the anointed one. We looked at some texts that talk about Jesus as Messiah, including the book of Isaiah. The text is envisioning a heavenly realm and a time when the kingdoms of this world come under the rule of the one that christians believe is due to return. Christians in the first century were claiming that Jesus is the Messiah, the anointed one, and the restorer of the throne of David. We also listened to music that was composed by Handel. I recognized one song, Hallelujah, that we listened to in class. Knowing other music by this composer can give us insight to what he is doing in the Messiah. We can enjoy this music and appreciate the biblical side to it.
