The meaning of the crucifixion to Christians is that it was the ultimate sacrifice for people in order for their sins to be forgiven. Jesus is seen as the metaphorical lamb that was sacrificed so those who follow him can receive salvation and the forgiveness of their sin. After the crucifixion, animal sacrifice that was performed for the forgiveness and cleansing of sin was no longer needed because of Jesus’ sacrifice. The significance of the crucifixion is not stated in the story of Jesus’ crucifixion; one has to refer to later texts that state this connection between Jesus and the sacrificial lamb in order to understand the meaning of Jesus’ death. The connections between Jesus and the sacrificial lamb is not evident looking between the gospels and music. Music conveys this connection and that is why people are so prone to view this as the meaning of His death, even though the significance of the crucifixion is not evident within the gospels. Music plays a large role of how people view biblical stories and makes people believe things about events that did not happen in the text.
