I found it very interesting how the Magnificat has been set to music so many times by too many composers to even list. To what extent does this transition from composers making their own original music to composers simply remaking someone else’s music? This actually reminded me of a rabbit hole I found myself in very recently. I had found a John Mayer song that was a cover of the song “I’ve Got a Woman” by Ray Charles. At the time, I did not know that Ray Charles had written and performed the original version of the song. I only knew the song from the Kanye song “Gold Digger” which features samples of the song within it. It took me looking up who originally sang the song to realize that Kanye had not originally made this music, simply remade it to make it his own.
