In class today, we discussed rhythms and converting lyrics to make them unique and memorable. We looked at how the same two verses(Magnificat) can be musically interpreted in so many different ways. While it is difficult to make sure you do not continue to repeat yourself or the work of others, we learned that our own rhythm is unique to us and probably not one that others would choose. Using two octaves of keys and words from Magnificat, we collectively made a rhythm. I am sure we would not have all made the exact same rhythm individually.
We also learned about the importance simplicity brings sometimes rather than complexity. Even though complexity shows a great amount of skill, simple melodies and rhythms are easier for others to remember and understand if they are trying to play. The most important element when creating music is ensuring your song is unique and memorable.
