Earlier in the week, on 10/5, we discussed in-class certain commercials that resonated with us. My initial answer to this question was the Extra gum commercial. If you can’t think of what commercial I mean, the commercial captures the love story between a young couple and how their relationship was planted and thus grew through their personal story told through gum wrappers. The commercial plays the song, Can’t Help Falling in Love, in the background. Granted this song is not only an exceptional song, but it made all the difference on how I will never forget this commercial. It was not only beautifully executed through the film production and of course the musical choice, but the main thing that stuck out to me was how something as simple as chewing gum through a commercial is so well ingrained in my mind. Our in-class discussion opened my eyes to fully understanding how our everyday lives can be so impacted on something that unconsciously might not even be recognized. I walked away from class on Tuesday with the ability to exacerbate new identification processing when it comes to music and being able to more closely recognize how it impacts my life.
