I thought that an interesting concept from class today was the idea that in certain time periods, a musical creation can be groundbreaking for its era. Today classical music seems very familiar and old to us, but at one point in time, this style was perhaps “hip” and boundary breaking. The idea that music “goes somewhere,” or in other words, a song develops, is one that I found to be interesting. This can produce many different sounds, and a variety of effects. This can be a particularly useful concept in theater or in films, because this can invoke emotion, excitement, anxiety, tension, etc.
