Today, in class, we looked at a song composed by Arvo Part which goes through the genealogy of the Bible. I have never studied the genealogy of the Bible and have never realized how long it truly is. The book of Genesis explains the descendants of Adam & Eve in relation to Abraham. The New Testament discusses the genealogy in the Gospel of Matthew and Luke. Even though I have not previously studied it, I plan to take a look at it to better understand the genealogy of Jesus.
We looked at multiple pieces from Arvo Part today. I personally liked how calming and soothing his work is. The style he developed is entitled “tintinnabuli” because of the similarity of bell sounds in his music. He is a popular composer that sets Biblical texts to music. His work is certainly one of my favorites that we have listened to so far in class.
