As we listened to the Arvo Pärt piece in class today, I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between this piece and those that we have previously discussed of the Classical Era. When I personally think about modern music, I imagine drums, keyboards, and maybe a few guitars. The ideas of this modern piece that encompasses the classic laws of music provides a new way of appreciating the pieces already studied in this class. This shows that there are ways to not just learn from the pieces we have listened to, but also to apply this ideas to new pieces of music. I look forward to more pieces on this train of thought, as I feel that I am starting to form connections between the course teachings and the course materials in the class.
