the stories from the book of the exodus are where most spirituals are based on stories from this book in the bible. most of these songs were based on the story of Moses freeing the Israelites from slavery. though these songs there including stories from the book of exodus it was based on topics from real life. for example, the song “satan was a slave owner” even though it contained biblical themes though it also showed how the slaves saw the plantation owners as evil.
