tonality is what we use to break free of traditional music. since we tend to think of music and language the same way we tend to think that music works the same way. twelve-tone tonality helps us break three of these by making us have to make choices that do not follow what we would normally do by forcing us to do things in music that at first seem abnormal but in the end still make a good song. this repetition in music also is like our preprogrammed ways to talk so that others can understand what on the mass of atoms that we live on (a.k.a earth) we are talking about. without these musical habits we learn from a young age we are opened to a wide variety of different ways we can compose notes together to make music.
