In class on December 2, we had a guest speaker talk to us over zoom. Our speaker, Devlyn Case, came to take to us about his music. He is from Wheaton College, and is a composer of many amazing pieces that we were able to listen to and learn about. He usually sets his music to Psalms in the Bible. On one of his pieces he used calm music to show that “God will protect.” This is how he gets his text across, by using certain music to explain the meaning. He explained one of his pieces, and then showed us the video of him playing in a church. I was very grateful to hear from a different composer that has created many amazing pieces that have related back to our course materials.
