I never realized until today how many times the Bible has been translated. I have always trusted the text in the Bible as the word of God, but today made me wonder if some of his words have been interpreted incorrectly. From Hebrew in stone to finding the consonants and then adding the vowels, time and time again translators have interpreted the text to the best of their ability, but have they altered it enough to what we believe now may not be completely truthful? The terms that have been left and not able to have been translated is a little concerning. What if those are able to add to the powerfulness and overall meaning of the content?
Even though it has been translated multiple times, it still is a little difficult to comprehend. Personally, I have spent a lot of time attempting to find the right meaning of a specific verse; however, we are fortunate enough to use music to help guide us through interpreting the text today. As a kid, I grew up in Sunday School learning the songs “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” and “Jesus Loves Me.” At such a young age, I was able to learn and understand those songs much able than I would if I had attempted to read the Bible. I can still repeat back just about every lyric of those songs as they set a great platform for my belief in my religion.
Today’s class made me thankful for those who have taken the time to translate the Bible to be able to give us the opportunity to spread God’s word. It is safe to say their work is trusted, but I never realized how the Bible has been continuously interpreted over time.
