Romance in the Bible

Today we looked at romance in the bible. We read some verses that talked about love. I thought some verses were interesting such as “Your hair is like a flock of goats.” How could this be talking about love? These metaphors don’t speak our language even though it is translated to English. We can always find lots of examples of love in the bible such as, “Love your neighbor as yourself” and “love your enemies.” We also talked about the story of Ruth which is partly a love story. During these ancient times, romance was very much not viewed as marriage. Marriages were arranged most of the time. In the story of Ruth, it seems like this marriage is arranged. The book of Ruth also shows the vulnerable in this society.
