Talking about chanting made more sense to me than it did when I was reading about it. I understood more the difference between chanting vs singing. I feel like chanting can have musical aspects but not all chanting is musical. For example, we talked about how what we chant at BU games can be considered a chant. But when I listen to the psalm that we heard from Georgia to the Pope (sorry can’t exactly remember what the name of the video was called) I see that more musical than “chanting”. I noticed in another classmate’s blog post that they characterized it as “rhythmic speaking” which I think summarizes it very well. I see chanting more as the BU chant at games more than I do the chanting we heard in the youtube video. I hear that more as musical and singing. Am I experiencing chanting at my own church that I don’t even realize? Maybe! I feel like at my church we definitely get down with our worship and our songs can slightly be seen as chanting.
