Dr McGrath touched on this denomination a little bit today in class. To go a little deeper this denomination followed John Calvin&#8217;s theology in accordance with Psalmody. This means that they exclusively sing psalms or very close paraphrases to the psalms. Additionally, members of the RP denomination only sing a capella in the context of worship. This being said, I have some familiarity with singing popular hymns with different lyrics and like Dr McGrath touched on today, it&#8217;s really quite weird and not as catchy to sing whichever psalm to the tune of Amazing Grace. With that background, I thought I would find a few more commonly known songs that could fit some of the Psalms we looked at today. We talked about two different meters, common and long. There are lots of well-known Christmas songs that fall into this category. To list a few: Joy to the World, O Little Town of Bethlehem, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, and I am so Glad Each Christmas Eve. There are even more hymns in this meter: Oh Beautiful, For Spacious Skies, and Oh for a Thousand Tongues to Sing.
