In class we briefly talked about how we started to write our song, whether you started with the melody and then put words to it, started with the words then put the melody to it, or wrote both at the same time. I answered that I did both at the same time. However, I was asked if that was always the case, which made me do a little deeper thinking… I have written a song in the past that was based on a text from the bible. I knew that I wanted to use the verse, but I didn’t know what melody to use. Recollecting this made me realize that it is in fact not always the case.
