Summer Fusion

Intern to Employee

For LAS majors, it can sometimes seem like second nature to go straight into grad school after undergrad.  But what about the students who want to go directly into a job?  Are students who receive a liberal arts education ready to jump into today’s workforce directly out of undergrad.  The Summer Fusion team thinks so.

In the business school here at Butler, it’s required to have two credited internships under your belt before graduation, but for a lot of disciplines in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, there is no internship requirement.  The Summer Fusion believes getting hands on work in a field you’re interested in is an important aspect of determining whether or not that career is really right for you.  Internships are a great way for students to “sample” a bunch of different fields their interested in, but without the requirement of internships not all students will take the initiative to pursue them.  Not only can internships give you more experience in a given discipline but a lot of the time interns are offered full-time positions at the end of their term or around graduation.

Summer Fusion wants to make internships and careers more accessible for students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  We have dedicated a significant portion of this year’s program to career planning and exploration and to networking to give participants the opportunity to converse and interact with seasoned leaders, emerging companies, and distinguished individuals in the Indianapolis area to land that next internship and even full-time job.
