Christopher (Chris) Bungard, Associate Professor of Classical Studies, received a BA from Denison University and an MA and PhD from Ohio State University. Dr. Bungard’s work focuses on Roman comedy, especially the ways that characters’ sense of self-identity shapes the ways they approach their world. In addition to publications in English and Italian, he is currently working on a translation of Plautus’ Truculentus which will be staged by Butler’s Theatre Department in December 2015. Starting in Fall 2015, he will also start teaching a First Year Seminar called “Why Is It Funny?” that will look at humor across the globe and throughout the centuries. When not teaching, Dr. Bungard can be found playing the Gaelic sport of hurling with the local Indianapolis GAA.
