The Center has awarded four Tutu Fellowships for the 2014-2015  year. The appointments were awarded based on project merit, past performance of the candidate, and the project’s alignment with the values of the Desmond Tutu Center to promote peace, reconciliation, and global justice locally and abroad. The applications were reviewed by the Desmond Tutu Center Faculty Advisory Committee.

Meet the 2014-2015 Tutu Fellows and learn about their projects:

Chad Bauman, Associate Professor and Chair, Philosophy and Religion, and the Classical Studies Program at Butler University, will receive funding for his research on Christianity and inter-religious violence in Sri Lanka. He will also receive funding for one student research assistant.

 

 

 

 

Matthias Beier, Director, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program, and Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology and Mental Health Counseling at Christian Theological Seminary, will receive funding for his research on therapeutic liberation theology.

 

 

 

Fait Muedini, Assistant Professor of International Studies at Butler University, will receive funding for his research on homosexuality and human rights in Turkey. He will also receive funding for two student research assistants.

 

 

Suzanne Coyle, Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology and Marriage and Family Therapy at Christian Theological Seminary, will receive funding for her project promoting the use of collective narrative practice to provide a venue for marginalized populations to claim their own story. She will also receive funding for the training of four students in the practice of collective narrative therapy.
