  • LIGHT HIDER

    by JAMMONICA

His claw was sharp, like a split harp. Then I realized he was aiming for my heart. Dragged it to my heart, my blood bled out like scars on my sleeves. For weeks and months everyone tried saving themselves from him. No one could ever dodge his sharp claws, he would come in the middle of the night to haunt his prey. People called out for help, wishing I had returned and come back to save them. So, after months passed, I came back to life, because I’m saving the world. I’m saving the world. To protect from harm and to make them feel safe. Not a lost cause if you have claws that stab in the dark and hide in the light.

  • DISAPPEARANCE

    by CHRISTOPHER

    You have a pencil, new
as a fresh pound of cow
    meat, good looking, beautiful.

    Going to school can’t wait
til you use it, excited, scared
you might lose it like a mouse

and its cheese, trying to get
the cheese and hoping you won’t
get snapped by the trap but

then you lose it, you search every-
where for it, like a bat looking for
darkness, but then you leave for

about five minutes to calm down you
come back and you found it in the
    same area you were searching

in, so confused, like a fifth grade
    student doing eleventh grade math
    homework.

  • LOVE-INDUCED CARDIAC ARREST

    by ISAIAH

I read the contents of your heart clear,
as if the lens were pierced over my iris, sear,
none; the soft-spoken often left unfed, suitcases
    left un-freed.
The girl who brings your heart to combustion
glares into the portals leading to your inner oceans.
I believe opposites disintegrate each other’s notions.
Nothing left for you or her to feed on,
your heart of gold and hers of stone
    send messages through magnetic fields.
You’re here for her love, she came to steal,
peels, the casing of your heart, and will,
    your prior undying self-esteem.
    “Love, you stole my light.
    Please, let me gleam.”

  • WHAT IS HOME?

    by ANDRE

    Home is where you lay
A place you will always stay
Your favorite place in the whole wide world
Even more than your favorite girl
You feed me on my dinner plate
I sit every night and contemplate
    Like the feeling of cotton
    So warm, fuzzy, soft
    A sunny rain
Warm but cold at the same time
The silver color of my home
    A protective family
The old nasty boot that never goes away
