    by ROSALEEN

My life is not perfect…Nothing is perfect but I try to keep my head up everyday. Most of the Time I’m not really happy. I mean yeah, there’s a smile on my face, but that doesn’t mean i’m happy.

But ever since I’ve met my brother I’ve cheered up a lot more. There is not only a smile on my face, but its a real smile with a lot more feeling.

I thought that was the only thing that could get better in my life, but like always, i was wrong.

Once I officially knew that I had feelings for him I told him. After a while he found out that he felt the same, but we still stayed as best friends. I thought we would never be together so I was about to throw these feelings away until…It happened.

I didn’t see it coming, but it just did…So I have two amazing guys in my life: my brother and my best friend. They are the reason why I’m happy.

  • I CAN’T BELIEVE

    by JAMMONICA

I can’t believe that this angel came back, because at first I was stuck in a big hole. Like I was in hell or something. But this wonderful angel came back to protect me from all the demons. That had me stuck into this deep dark hole. I was scared that I wouldn’t be saved. I was scared that an angel would save me. I couldn’t believe it. The angel has a halo and wings. The angel was miraculous, the greatest one ever. I thought I would have been stuck in the dark still but a light struck me out of nowhere. I’ve been struck by a beautiful bright light. I actually thought I wouldn’t be saved. I thought I would have been taken away. But I wasn’t. This angel protected me from this dark force. This angel didn’t want me to be destroyed or taken by this dark force. The angel wanted me to stay because I was a good addition to this earth. She wanted me to shine so bright. I shone so bright. It felt like I was on top of the world.

  • WHY THE DESERT REMAINS

    by KYLA

In the vastness of Arizona, before there was a desert, it was covered in water, with only a few islands peeking out of the water. On these few islands lived a few villages of people that had to use boats to travel to other villages. On the largest, most exquisite island lived the Lord of Mesas, Sequato Busak.

Through his spyglass, he watched the villagers. The one who caught his eye the most was a sixteen-year-old commoner named Tutania Sena. She didn’t mean anything to the chief of her village — he who only cared that his village was the smallest, least fertile island.

Sequato wanted to meet the chief to discuss his predicament. He called for his jeweled staff and golden boats. His servants rowed for three days before they reached the smallest island. The chief greeted him.

“Excuse our mess, we don’t have very good lucky in growing things,” he said.

“I did not come for an inspection. Let’s walk to the other side of the island so I can tell you my problem,” Sequato replied.

The chief agreed and they journeyed nine miles to the other side of the island.

“What is your situation, my lord?” the chief asked.

“I have found love in one of your villagers,” Sequato replied. He stared at the ground, but it seemed like the ground stared back, since his eye color was bronze like the ground.

“What is her name?” asked the chief.

“I don’t know. All I know is that her skin is like the darkest almond. Her eyes are as brown as the otters of the lake,” Sequato said.

“You mean Tutania,” the chief said.

“Can I have her hand in marriage?” asked Sequato.

“You must take it up with Inkpotto Plato, the Lone Ranger of our village,” the chief replied.

So Sequato took his advice and went to the potter’s cottage.

“Inkpotto Plato?” he asked when he saw a man with a Western fedora come to the potting room.

“It depends on who is inquiring the services,” Inkpotto said.

“I am Lord Busak,” Sequato said.

“Oh, what can I do ya for? A vase? A pot? A cauldron?” Inkpotto asked.

“None. I want to marry Tutania. I’ll give you all the gold and servants you desire, your own village on the second largest and most exquisite island.” Sequato replied.

“I’ll fetch her at once,” said Inkpotto.

He gave Tutania to Sequato and Sequato gave him his own royal boat with his gold and servants, which then headed for the second largest island.

Sequato took Tutania to his palace on his island and had her prepared for the ceremony.

“Let me go back to my sick father,” she begged.

Sequato was too much in love with her to let her go.

“As soon as the ceremony is over,” he replied.

“Then I will not marry you,” Tutania said.

She ran in her wedding dress to the smallest boat and rowed away. Sequato was so furious that he cursed the land with his staff and made it into a vast desert. He vowed the lake would not come back until he married her.

  • SONGS FROM MY VIOLIN

    by KATRINA

I can talk to dead people through my violin. I sit in the dark forest and play a sad tune that makes your heart hurt when you hear it. Your ears ring and your brain turns to mush. The evil souls reveal themselves. It’s the only time they feel loved, understood, not neglected. Though it’s only on Halloween. The day the devil dances. Though one Halloween that was a mistake.

Since the devil is evil and full of tricks, he decided to play a game. The game was called soul-snatching. And since I was the dumb human I helped him. I didn’t actually help him snatch souls; I helped him by making him to feel welcome out of the shadows. See, now every time I played my violin, it made him stronger. He grew taller and became fatter, his claws longer and his teeth sharper. His mind thinks more evil thoughts and his plans become smarter.

He controlled me like a puppet on strings. He moved me out of the forest and into the world where all the innocent people were. He forced me to go into their homes and snatch their souls right out of their bodies. The looks on their innocent faces was a look I had never wanted to see. It was the look in the children’s eyes – a look of fear and worry. I felt ashamed. I wanted to die with them, especially when I had to look into the eyes of Jammonica.

She was the two-year-old I had once helped dress up like a princess and took trick-or-treating, the sweet, innocent girl I had babysat and tucked into bed every night. She was my little sister and I loved her. That feeling, that happy memory made the devil drop the strings.

I fell and broke the glass bowl in which I had been storing the souls. The souls sunk down into the earth and I heard an evil laugh.

A voice then said, “You almost made a fool of me. I almost lost my precious souls. Since you are a good person, and I feel you aren’t ready for this evil game and those wicked memories, I will take you out of your misery. But, for me to do that you would have to serve me and play your violin to make me happy.”

“See, now, you are trying to make a fool of me,” I replied. “I played my violin for you, and you became stronger. And to be fair, if I may add, I have been your servant long enough. I have served you daily. No way! I will not serve you anymore!”

I felt my body lift back up and travel back to the forest. My violin floated up and landed on my shoulder. My fingers automatically moved into place. The bow was already on the string, but I didn’t lift my hand to begin playing. I kept my hand on my right hip and said:

“Have fun in Hell, ‘cause that’s where you will stay.”

I then lifted my violin and slammed it against the cold dirt. It smashed into pieces. The game was finally over.
