  • END TO BEGINNING

    by DEMONTE

I was raised in the 317, born in Cleveland city.
I saw all these dudes in the pity,
smokin and drinkin to their end,
gangsta thug play tryin to fit in,
but the end is where most begin,
change their life around to win,
but on this road to success some will be injured, maybe even die,
but if they believe in HIM they will fly.
thats why I say some should start their lives from the end
    to make a new beginning.

I knew a guy when I was young. He was screwed up in the head. He was one one of those types of people who knew right from wrong, but he always did the wrong and told me and my friends to do the right. Like one day, me and my friends were riding our bikes around the block, and we saw a group of dudes jumping this one guy, but we knew that the guy was joining that gang because you have to be jumped to get in a gang. So the guy finally got up and it was him who told us not to do wrong. Then it was weird, right when he got off the ground, he looked up straight at us and then started limping towards us. When he finally was in front of us, he said don’t ever join a gang.

Me and my friends were like why is he telling us this and he just joined a gang, but we all said nothing. I knew he was a good person playing gangster. I also knew that getting jumped into a gang is not all you have to do to get in a gang. You also have to prove yourself, that means you have to injure or kill someone. I wondered to myself would this guy who tells us not to do wrong kill or hurt someone. Two days later, I heard my mom screaming on the phone, and I was pretty sure that she was getting bad news on the phone. When she got off, I asked her what’s wrong. She said the guy who always told us to do good not wrong had to prove himself to the gang and he tried to shoot another person in a different gang but instead he got shot in the head. He was in a coma for six weeks before he finally woke up.

He could not work the right side of his body that well, and he stuttered a lot. He had to do 6 months of physical therapy, and he was wheelchair bound for a while, and when he came out of the hospital, he was a different person, not physically but spiritually. He was totally into Christ and all throughout the neighborhood he would speak of God, and people listened. He changed my hood. He died going into that hospital and came out the hospital born again. He started his life from the end and made a new beginning.

  • HOW

    by DAEZY

In the beginning, there was nothing. The Moon Goddess, Keevera, and the sun goddess, Riiiyah, were sitting at the edge of the universe trying to figure out how to create the perfect world. “What about a red planet?” Riiiyah asked Keevera as she began walking out into the universe. “We can sit it closer to me so it will be warm, and you can put water on the ends of the planet to keep it nourished.” Keevera nodded in agreement, and instantly got to work. They built the planet out of clay and hard rock. They put lava in the middle of the planet to give it a heartbeat, and when they were done, they smiled happily at their new creation, Mars. “It’s perfect,” Riiiyah said in happiness. Keevera nodded and walked with her sister to the middle of the solar system. Riiiyah sat down, crossed her legs, held her arms up, palms facing to the sky, and opened her blazing yellow eyes. Her hair blazed a brilliant blue flame, and her skin turned bright gold. She opened her mouth and let out a terrifying cry as she breathed fire and life and warmth not too far from her planet. But, soon after, the planet burned from too much love. Riiiyah cried and closed her mouth, as she cried tears of molten lava.

“How about we try again?” Keevera suggested in attempt to calm her sister down. When she touched her sister, her skin burned, but Keevera was used to it by now. Riiiyah smiled and they got to work. They created a blue planet that was almost pure gas called Venus. The sat it not to far from the petrified Mars. Riiiyah sat back in her place in the middle and opened her mouth to bring warmth to the planet again. This planet did not fry, but when they looked at it, they realized that if they tried to create beings they would die from the gas.

They sighed and tried again. This time they used water, and a new substance called dirt. They put the planet behind Venus and Mars, and when Riiyah took her place….it stayed! They cheered with happiness, and joy. They called it Earth, and Keevera then got an idea. She would shape the planet into a circle and build a rock to orbit it. On that rock, she would watch their planet and see if anyone would try and steal it. There would be many Gods who would try to get their perfect world.

For centuries they watched their planet in happiness. They built beings out of cold blood and scales. They called them dinosaurs and named them all different things. They watched as their planet thrived and lived in glee. But all too soon, that glee was over.

The God of the Heavens, Urinka, and his angels had been watching them for thousands of years. Urinka had his eyes on the moon goddess because she was closest to the perfect world. He hated them for being able to create the perfect world before he did. But he couldn’t help but marvel at the twisted beauty of the goddesses. Of course, the Sun goddess was beautiful, with her blazing fire hair, and her beautiful golden eyes and skin, but the moon goddess had another layer of beauty to her. She orbited the planet on the moon, her pale blue skin shining in the light of the sun, her white-gray rock dress falling gracefully above her long, scaly feet. Her lips were black, and so were her nails, and her eyes. She had no pupils, no irises; instead she had empty sockets with eels in place. Her hair was bright blue water and her eyes were far wide against her head. He wanted the moon goddess to be his, and he was sure he would get her. So he attacked her.

He sent his angels down to attack her, and watched as his most loyal angel, Lucifer, ripped her spirit from her body. Her sister, the sun goddess, was unable to do anything – if she left her spot, her planet would die. The war was bloody. The moon goddess created new spirits that she called “the stars” to fight off the demons, and she watched as they ripped them apart, their blood spattering everywhere and staying in place. Lucifer returned her spirit to Urinka and Urinka gazed at in glee. He would have great use of this.

He sent a block of gas to the earth and wiped out the dinosaurs. He created new beings he made from his rib and a garden where they would grow. Lucifer had long turned against him, and he had convinced the female being to eat from the forbidden tree. Once she had, his beings grew conscious of many things.

He wanted to be a kind, forgiving God, so he forgave them. Soon after they were thriving with children, Lucifer always tried to interfere, sometimes succeeding, sometimes losing. He put the spirit of himself in a baby of the woman. Then he put the moon goddesses spirit in and renamed himself. He was Jesus, the son of God, and his new world was thriving.

The sun goddess wept in the center of the universe, knowing this was all because of the death of her sister and her inability to protect her when she needed her the most . . .

  • PURGATORY

    by JADON

Wind. Breeze. Air currents. The powerful energizers that pierce my soul with life and power.  As my heart jump-starts, I awake on the acres of elegant, healthy grass blades.  I am surprised how quickly I rise to my bare feet and spread my average wingspan to embrace the icy winds. I’m dead. I know it. I feel it. I sense it. I remember only flashes and fragments of my last moments on earth before Death himself touched my heart and ascended to this paradise. But I am not an ignorant fool.  I know this place better than my own hand. This is Hell. This is Purgatory.

Well now that God has burdened me to this realm I needed to pure the so called “sins” that I have committed.  I needed to work my way up from the ground to the peak of Mount Purgatory.  How, you ask? Simple. By slaying demons.

I began my journey to enlightenment by traveling one of Purgatory’s large forests. I needed to search for tools. I needed weapons.  I walked through the splinters of light and shadow. Searching for a javelin or a sword or anything. But instead I found nothing. Nothing. But I saw something. A light. A refraction. A gleam of light and rays. Salvation with a point.  I sprinted over and grabbed the object hoping it was a sword. A long blade.

“A KNIFE!!!!!!!!!!” I exclaimed. Purgatory sent me a knife to slay demons with a goddamn knife! I felt a claw on my shoulder’s and in a flash I was in the air screaming for my dear life. I looked up and saw my destroyer.

It had red eyes and gray skin with black nightmarish wings of chaos. Fear itself stared me down. I blindly pulled the knife and lashed out on my killer, penetrating the soft gray flesh with the hard cold blade of my wrath.

He burst into golden dust before my eyes and so did the hard grip keeping me from falling. I lashed out like a fish out of water, as if trying to fly without wings.

Gravity reached out and gripped me with it’s enormous hand pulling me to the ground. I fell straight through the trees scraping and cutting my skin. I fell onto the ground felling the wrath of momentum. My head was dizzy and my vision was doubled.

“One down, one million to go,” my head dropped into unconsciousness.

  • DARK SHADOW OF NIGHT (PT. 1)

    by KILA

I’ve never given much thought to love and the love of death, never took that second look for what I had desired, like how I had desired them in my dreams. The feeling of wanting and being wanted, it’s the feeling that makes you psychotic like that moment when you first look at the moon and the dark shadow of night, and you know that they belonged together, like they were destined to be that way.

Sometimes I’ve thought about the obvious and just how peaceful it would be to forget about the fact that you even exist, but then it only makes me fall deeper into love’s hellfire drought, the temptation for the dehydration of lust.

    To be continued . . .

  • SUPERMAN

    by JEREMIAH

I haven’t been the same since I learned to fly. I’ve always dreamed of flying, but I never thought it would actually happen. I never thought it would actually happen. I’ve only seen it in TV shows and movies, never thought I would be the one to do it.

It all started one day I woke up from a deep, deep sleep feeling funny. I walked out to the balcony to get some fresh air. Suddenly I fainted and fell  over the edge right before I hit the ground. I noticed I was flying. It freaked me out for awhile, but I learned to cope with it after I told a trusted friend.

So I fly to work and everywhere else as part of my daily routine. Everywhere I go people refer to me as Superman. I often let that go to my head, and I try to save people who don’t need saving, but not so often anymore. Flying is like a fairytale to me, but it’s real and makes my everyday life a lot easier than it was.

There was one special occasion where I actually saved someone. It was a woman on top of a building who was thinking about jumping off. So as she jumped off, I hurried and got in the air. Just in the nick of time I caught her. After I caught her and brought her to safety, she thanked me. At that moment I felt real special to see how grateful she was.
