Safety tips
Sledding is fun, but it can be dangerous. Cara Fast, manager at the Riley Safety Store, has some recommendations for keeping safe on the snow.
- Always sit facing forward to decrease the risk of a serious head injury. Consider a winter sports helmet.
- Ensure the sled is in good working condition.
- Dress properly for cold weather. Avoid scarves or other clothing that may get caught.
- Use a hill that is not too steep and has a long flat area at the bottom to glide to a stop. Don’t use hills that end near a street, parking lot, pond or trees.
