MRE 750 for Friday

It’s almost here. Spring break. That magical time when you can immerse yourself entirely, without any distractions whatsoever, into writing your multigenre research essay.

As a springboard to your week of focus & solitude (that’s what everyone is doing, right?), sit down for another 750 before Friday’s class. No prompts this time. You’re deep enough into your research and thinking about this project that you should have plenty to write about.

Remember:

The more time you put in now = the less freaking out later.

The more work you invest in this essay now = the better it will be.

Forget the grade. Just make something great enough to shock yourself.

MRE 750 for Wednesday

Another day, another 750.  By now (hopefully), your project is gaining both mass and momentum. You might already have plenty of stuff to write about today, but if you don’t, consider the following research angle:

  • Appearances of your practice/artifact in arts, literature, or the news over the years.

MRE 750 for Monday

The 750 train rolls on. What to write about today? You might think about trying a new genre for a creative tile.

Or you might “talk about” the essay, thinking on the screen about approaches you might take, genres you might try, or research angles.

Or you might consider (then research and write about) this research angle:

  • As a resource, Wikipedia is pretty shoddy and unreliable. But as a resource for other, more academic and reliable sources, Wikipedia can be a great jumping-off point. Here’s what you can do: look up your subject on Wikipedia. Scroll down past the suspect article into the “references” section. Jackpot.

Also, if you’d like to weigh in on the proposed attendance experiment, leave your thoughts in the comments section. If you weigh in, make sure to read and respond to your classmates’ thoughts as well. In other words, treat it like the comment thread on a message board.

Happy writing!

Multigenre Research Essay (MRE) 750

Two quick notes:

1. The Points Tracker will be screwed up until I plug in your essay grades. And, just to remind you, I’ll grade your essay when you set up your conference.

2. Plug in your 750 link for Wednesday below. Need a prompt to get started? Consider one of the following creative tiles:
-Personal anecdote: what is your connection with this topic?
-Write from the point of view of your artifact.
-Imagine the scene of the invention of your artifact/practice.
