My thesis project
For my final year of studies at Butler University, I’m trying to tackle an undergraduate thesis project. Why not? This blog will be dedicated to exploring my thesis, and hopefully a great way to receive constructive feedback from others! Please let me know what you think!
In a nutshell, this project started because I love music (lately, I have become especially attached to opera) and I love Indianapolis. I’d love nothing more than to share this love with others, so ultimately this is what this project is all about!
I think there are some big problems with opera in Indianapolis. Despite the amount of diversity this city holds, opera companies have had a really hard time expanding their audiences. I feel like they keep showing the same programming over and over again. And while they may have specific and well developed marketing tactics, they aren’t making any lasting connections. They aren’t engaging the communities. If opera companies are every going to survive, they need to find new ways of reaching out to the communities around them.
