The Madness of March has already begun with conference tournaments, but the big dance starts tomorrow, March 20th, with the first game tipping off at 12:15pm when 8 seed Louisville takes on 9 seed Creighton. There will be much more madness to follow, with potential sleeper teams making a run.
The first sleeper in this year’s tournament is the Mcneese Cowboys who had an impressive season. They finished the season with a 27 and 6 record, winning the Southland conference which landed them a 12 seed in the tournament. Mcneese is led by Shahada Wells who is averaging 18 points and 5 assists per game, but they also rank top 40 in the nation in both offense and defense. Mcneese kicks off their tournament with the 5 seed Clemson Tigers at 3:15 Tomorrow.
Gonzaga basketball has seemed to be on top of the world in years past but this year has looked a bit different. the Bulldogs ended with a 25 and 8 record and winning the West Coast Conference tournament. Despite late season success, the Zags are sitting at an 8 seed. Gonzaga is one of the top scoring teams in the nation averaging 87.2 points per game and will lean on players like Graham Ike and Khalif Battle. They will face the 9 seeded Georgia Bulldogs tomorrow at 4:35pm
Finally, the 3 seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders look to make a deep run in this year’s tournament. The high powered offense of the Red Raiders averages 81.4 points per game and their defense also does not disappoint, only giving up 66.5 points per game. After finishing the season 25 and 8 Texas Tech will look to lean on key players like Chance McMillian and JT Toppin to make a deep run. The Red Raiders kick off tournament play against 14 seed UNC Wilmington at 10:10pm tomorrow.
