This afternoon, the Butler Women’s team defeated the Flames of UIC 61-54 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Lady Dawgs overcame the odds of having only 7 players available for today’s game. With Kristen Carter, Karsyn Norman, and Riley Makalusky all entering the transfer portal, Butler had to rely on freshman players Lily Zeinstra, Lily Carmody, and Jocelyn Land to help the seniors win this game. Land was key to the Dawgs victory with 13 points including 3 critical threes in the 2nd half. Lily Zeinstra was also a key factor as her team-leading 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists were vital when the team needed her the most. Senior leaders Sydney Jaynes, Kilyn McGuff, and Ari Wiggins led the charge with their underclassmen team and controlled the lead for the entire game. This victory leaves Butler to wait for the conclusion of Old Dominion vs Purdue Ft. Wayne to determine not only who they play but where the game will take place. If Purdue FW upsets Old Dominion, the Dawgs will host again on Thursday or Friday. Even with the ongoing crisis of transfers and injuries, this Butler Women’s team refuses to give up and continues to prove that they can overcome the odds and potentially win this tournament.
