Michelle’s Reflection
0What goal do you have for this year to make your Info Commons experience a success?
My first goal is to catch up on what I missed at the retreat. I feel as if I missed out on the first stage of success in Info Commons, so I need to get caught up! My second goal would be to obtain an abundance of knowledge and experience in regards to technology, building work relationships, and the resources Butler students and faculty have available to them. The more knowledge and experience I have, the better resource I will be not only to myself, but also to other Info Commons workers and the Butler community that we assist.
What goal do you have for this year to make Info Commons better as a whole?
Info Commons has the potential to help every person on Butler’s campus, but few know about who we are, what we do, or how we can provide them that help. I believe that Info Commons can be better as a whole if we find new ways to communicate with the Butler community. Talking to more professors to increase the number of in class tutorials as well as asking students what technology assistance they need are only some ways to increase the community’s awareness about what Info Commons is all about.

1Sorry about the lateness, I emailed the link to Eric and Scott and life has been crazy since then. 🙂
My reflection is posted to my blog at: blogs.butler.edu/mabradbu
Katie’s Reflections (sans retreat)
11. My goal for this year to make my Info commons experience a success is to listen to others more carefully. I believe that collaboration is the best and most effective way to get work done. Therefore, I plan on listening to those who have been with IC longer than I (especially this last year) and I hope to learn more about the ‘updated’ program through them.
2. My goal this year to make info commons better as a whole is to help others with the techniques that I excel at in order for them to become better to help students and faculty. I also hope to get to know everyone better…it is difficult to come back after being gone for a year and expecting to jump right back into things, so that being said, I look forward to working with you all and getting to know you better! Thank you.
Shelby’s Retreat Reflection
0My goals for this year to make my info commons experience a success include, getting to know everybody better and to continue to build upon the relationships established during the retreat. I also want to be proficient in the topics we covered during the retreat and be able to apply what I learned during the retreat to other things.
My goals for this year to make info commons better as a whole would be to come up with projects to get our name better known throughout campus so that reach a greater amount of people. We could also use more social media to get our become better known and facilitate discussion amongst different groups on campus. I think it would also be important to get the word out about the libguides and tutorials we offer so student are aware of those resources. Lastly I think we could try to reach more faculty and make them more aware of the services we offer to make teaching class and keeping tract of student discussion easier.
Reflecting back on our whole life values and experiences discussion on Monday made me realize I need better time management and helped me pinpoint my values. By doing this I learned to spend more time on what values means the most to me and focus on that instead of trying to spread myself too thin.
Amy’s Retreat Reflection
0Goal for this year to make your info commons experience a success?
My main goal for this year that I believe will help make info commons a success is to help everyone as much as possible. Additionally I want to learn new programs so I can be able to provide the best help I can to students/faculty. Finally I want to help with classroom interactions because I think that is the best way to get the word out about what we do.
Goal for this year to make info commons better as a whole?
I think that my main goal to make info commons better as a whole is to help work on promotions. There are still quite a few people that don’t know what IC does and we need to get the word out. Twitter and Facebook will help but I believe that word of mouth is most effective. People will listen to their friends, so we need to start the casade of word of mouth by going to as many classrooms aas possible and showing the students what we do.
Whole life values and experience
I really appreciated the workshop about whole life values. I think that having balance in your life is the most important thing. I really want to help talk to students about life balance/time management. I think coming from a student perspective will help them relate more. I also believe that the concept of “unplugging” is very important. Too many students get caught up with technology and they are losing proper social etiquette skills. I think that having this aspect in IC is the most important component: we need to help students see that we can help with technology but we can also help show them how to step away.

Kegan’s Retreat Reflection
1Goal for this year to make your info commons experience a success: Learn a variety of media programs. Be able to help customers with any problems that they may have. Get more proficient with using the Mac OS.
Goal for this year to make info commons better as a whole: Spread the word about Information commons and CAT to all students. If these services become more visible, more people will use them, and talk positively about them.
Whole life values and experiences: *Came on the last day of the retreat, and missed the orientation. Not entirely sure what to write here.
