Urban Naturalist Team Seeking college-aged students and individuals working towards an impactful career in the green-collar/environmental field.
OVERVEW

The Urban Naturalist program at KIB works to create, preserve, and maintain the native, urban ecosystems here in the city of Indianapolis. The Urban Naturalist program is seeking individuals that promote professionalism and are interested in gaining hands-on horticultural training, learning personal and environmental responsibility, and are happy working with a team of individuals pursuing a degree and career in the environmental field.

The work is almost exclusively outdoors and involves watering, weeding, mulching, planting native forbs, trees, and grasses and participating in invasive removal projects. Our primary goals are stormwater mitigation, habitat restoration, and creating new native ecosystems. Other tasks include litter clean-up, active participation in enrichment activities, educating members of various communities, and leading volunteer groups. Weekly enrichment activities vary by week, but all present the Urban Naturalist team with the opportunity to network with green-collar professionals and to learn about post-collegiate careers in the environmental industry. This program aims to help connect the young professionals of Indianapolis to the environment, foster a commitment to service, and to cultivate lasting friendships with the community and the other members of the Urban Naturalist team.

REQUIREMENTS: Interested individuals must be pursuing a degree in an environmentally related field (ecology, biology, env. science/management, etc.). Applicants should be hard workers, consistent in attendance and punctuality, unbiased towards gender, creed, or ethnicity, and possess a strong desire to learn and grow professionally. A horticultural background and outdoor work experience are desired, but not a requirement.

*Note: this program can fulfill internship requirements with most universities. TIMELINE | HOURS (Based around the class/work schedules of the Urban Naturalist team members)
