Lessons Learned – Ryan Alsman

CustoMYzed for the most part this semester ran very smoothly.  There were not many conflicts that needed to be attended to, but there were still many lessons learned along the way.  The biggest lesson I learned about myself was that I am a strong leader.  I felt as though I took control of many situations for my team and I think our team needed a strong leading personality.  This is somewhat out of the ordinary for me, but I was glad to be able to help my team out however we needed the help. I was not the only person to lead the group.  The group’s leading focal point changed several times as different people stepped up in situations they were more comfortable.  This kind of balance was helpful to our organization because it grew a strong relationship between all of our management team.

There were many lessons that I learned about business as well.  Business is not always as smooth as it may seem.  We encountered problems along the way which helped our team gain a better understanding of what we needed to be successful.  As the semester moved on I learned that we needed to be more flexible with our ideas.  We wanted for our business to work out perfectly the way we envisioned it and that was just not the case.  We quickly learned that the way we thought business would play out and the way that it actually was playing out were very different.  We had to make adjustments to our plans and the way we did business.  We were successful in these changes, and these changes allowed us to be successful.
