The passwords for our two generic logons (mainly used in Reference and the Science Library) have had their passwords changed. We were overdue anyway, and I’ve seen some people coming in and logging in with those accounts on their own.
The new logon info is available at the Reference Desk, both for libpub and libalum.
I’ve tested them both and they are working effective immediately.

Just an FYI that our main Reference printer started jamming last night. This morning I found a torn piece of paper still in the side where the paper comes up. (NB: it’s important to make sure that, if a piece of paper tears while you’re removing it that you find EVERY PIECE. Even a tiny fragment in the right place can cause jams.) After clearing jams a couple times, it started working fine and did so for over an hour. Then it jammed again. When I cleared that jam and it jammed a second time, it finally gave me a service code. I’ve alerted Help Desk and given them all the necessary information.
Hopefully someone will be here early this afternoon to get it fixed. In the meantime, the other printer is working fine.

Well, the biggest change in LibGuides is something we’ve been asking for: a LINK CHECKER.
You can check the links in your own LibGuides from your “My Admin” page. It appears that it’s run once a month. All you have to do is click that link and you’ll see a list of the broken links and which Guide they’re in. Can’t be much easier than that!
Here are some LibGuides Stats as of September. Remember that this program was launched in May 2007 and has only been seriously promoted for a little over a year. (And we’ve been officially using it only since January of this year.)

Also, we apparently were having issues with the Catalog Search from LibGuides in Facebook going to the PALNI site rather than our own Butler Libraries catalog. Although I thought I checked that function after we upgraded Aleph, it’s apparently been a problem since then. Since the Facebook search uses the same code as the regular search, we’ve probably had a problem with searching the catalog from ANY LibGuides app or widget. Yesterday I was able to get the code figured out and changed. As of this morning it appears to be continuing to work, even from outside Indiana.
If you would like more support, tips, ideas, etc., there are PLENTY available to you. Just log into your LibGuides “My Admin” page and click the Community tab. It’s well worth your time.
We’ve add three new computers to the student pool, as it were.
Now, downstairs in the Education Commons, instead of one only PC, we have TWO PCs and TWO iMacs. Yay, Macs!
The two iMacs came from Reference and those have been replaced by PCs. So now in Reference we have 4 Macs and 22 PCs.
The Macs in the Education Commons have been cabled down, to help prevent those little machines from growing legs. Also, the three PCs are the NEWEST MODELS that I.R. has to offer. I’m not sure if and how this may affect their performance or other issues, so if you hear of any, please let me know.
Thanks very much.
