Have you ever wondered what your professor does when s/he is not teaching you or grading papers?
The Celebration of Scholarship & Creative Activity is an exhibit in Irwin Library that runs through February 28. There are tables around the main floor of Irwin Library where you can see (and read) books, articles, music scores, posters, programs, etc., that your professors have written/published/performed in the last year.
Stop into Irwin Library and look up your professor! The printed bibliographies can serve as an Exhibit Guide to make it easy for you to find people.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR! The opening reception for the Celebration of Scholarship & Creative Activity will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Irwin Library.
To allow more time for discussion and reacquaintance with colleagues, the reception will be a little less formal this year. We will have an “open house” style reception with food, wine, music, and great conversation, but no agenda or speaker. Please plan to stop by, take a look at what your colleagues have accomplished this last year, and enjoy the collegiality.

The Celebration of Scholarship & Creative Activity exhibit is available in Irwin Library on tables scattered around the main floor. Come see what Butler faculty and staff have accomplished this last year besides “just” teaching classes. There are books, articles, artwork, musical scores, CDs, concert programs, and more.
The items will be on display through February 24.
Anyone wishing to contribute materials to our Tenth Annual Celebration of Scholarship and Creative Activity, please note that we have DIFFERENT PROCEDURES this year.
Because the printed bibliography is going to be a 10-Year Retrospective, we need the information for your materials in December, even though the materials themselves do not need to be brought in until January.

The 9th Annual Celebration of Scholarship and Creative Activity
an Exhibit of Faculty & Staff Publications and Works
For the month of February, Irwin Library will host Butler University’s 9th annual Celebration of Scholarship and Creative Activity. From Feb. 1 – 26, 2010, materials recently written, published, created, and performed by Butler faculty and staff will be on display throughout the main floor of Irwin Library.
A major role of the academic library is to promote scholarship, research, and professional accomplishment within the university. This takes different forms because “professional contributions” vary widely between academic disciplines. In one field it may be publishing a book, while in another it may be the norm to present posters at a conference or have a creative work performed for an audience.
This exhibit is an opportunity for Butler students and employees to find out more about the scholarly and creative activities of the faculty beyond that of just lecturing a few times a week. While some may view this as a showcase for faculty publications of books and articles, it is really much more than that. This is an event to celebrate scholarly and creative accomplishments by both faculty and staff and to see more of the whole person behind them.
Please stop into Irwin Library during the month of February to see what Butler’s faculty and staff have been doing this last year. You can also visit http://www.butler.edu/library/celebration for more information.
