Comments Off on Reference Desk Service Begins The Reference Desk in Irwin Library will be staffed beginning August 23, the first day of classes, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. This schedule will also apply to Thursday and Friday of that week.
Evening Reference service will begin on Sunday, August 27. As of that day, the regular schedule will be as follows:
Sunday: 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Monday – Thursday: 10:00 am – 10:00 pm
Friday: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Saturday: CLOSED
Comments Off on Website Printing The problem we had when printing materials off the new library website has been resolved. You may recall that when we tried to print SRGs or other pages, we got a long list of links (basically the header’s dropdown links) that took up over one whole page. Plus we had Ask-A-Librarian images at the bottom of every printout.
We have now implemented Butler’s first Printing Style Sheet, a CSS file which tells the web browser to hide the header, sidebar info, etc., when printing. The result is a nicely formatted page ready for printing. Basic web pages, SRGs, citation guides, etc., will all print cleanly now, without all the extra links and things that were showing up originally.

The Reference Department at Irwin Library is pleased to announce that they are purchasing new computer tables for the computer lab area. These tables are curved and provide a new look for the area that is light and modern and more conducive to group work. They are similar to this picture but they are oak instead of grey-colored, and they will only have two computers per half-circle, allowing for more flexibility with small groups.
A few have already been installed, but more will be coming over the next few weeks. We hope you enjoy them and find them even more helpful for your work in the library.

Comments Off on New Library Website It’s August 1st and the newly redesigned library website is live and functioning! Right on schedule.
We hope the new design is even more intuitive and user friendly than the old one. Some of the new elements of our site include usage of Butler’s Content Management System for the entire site, a new web presence for the Science Library, and an RSS feed from DawgBlog, our library news weblog.
While it may take a little while to get used to the site, it is our hope that it’s easy to use, logically organized, and that it becomes transparent, so you can get right to the information you need.
