Summer 2017

Through the generosity of the Center for Global Education, I traveled to Havana, Cuba for a seminar on social Justice during and after the Cuban Revolution. This trip certainly deserves a long post of its own and a photo album.  The trip has inspired me to plan for a week-long Spring 2020 trip for my course HST 303 Public History. While still very much in the planning stages, I am really excited about taking a group of Butler undergrads to Havana to engage in the politics and possibilities of public history in the Spring of 2020. Stay tuned for details!

Fall 2017 Sabbatical

Spring 2018

Returning from sabbatical, I am teaching HST 212 American Visions (T/TH 11-12:15), HST 342 Votes for Women (T/TH 1-2:15), and HST 303 Junior Year Project (T/TH 2:25-3:40).

Today’s Google doodle is in honor of the pioneering suffragist, feminist, and labor rights activist, Alice Paul (1885-1977). Paul was instrumental in getting the 19th amendment passed. Radicalized by her sojourn in England she helped to galvanize the movement in the US in the 1910s.  “There will never be a new world order until women are a part of it.” She was right.
